Rework X Recycle: Crafting Bella's Heirloom Rings

When Bella approached us at KIND Collection to transform her grandmother's cherished ring into something uniquely hers, we were thrilled to be a part of this meaningful journey. Bella has been a big part of KIND Collection, as she has been running our social media and marketing channels for the past 5 years – so this was an extra special piece to make. Bella presented us with her grandmothers ring, adorned with a bright blue sapphire and 12 small diamonds. Her vision was to create two stackable rings, each holding their distinct charm on their own, yet complimenting each other beautifully when worn together.

The Design Process

The journey of reimagining Bella's inherited piece was a collaborative dance of ideas and creativity. We went back and forth on a number of designs, meticulously refining each detail until it resonated with Bella's vision. Transforming such a sentimental piece required a delicate balance of preserving its essence while infusing it with Bella's personal style.

Transitioning the design into a wax mould was a pivotal moment, as it offered a tangible glimpse into how the rings would feel and look. Bella's preference leaned towards a design that made a statement yet aligned with her existing jewellery collection. We decided that the original mould was too chunky, so we sculpted it down in small increments, until we achieved the sleek yet bold aesthetic that Bella was looking for.

Once the design was approved, we set the rings in 18ct gold, incorporating gold from the original ring. Once the ring was set, we played around with the placement of the sapphire, and decided to add an additional mid-sized diamond to the chunkier ring to create a striking balance. The second ring, with its wavy design, was scattered with the 12 smaller diamonds from the original ring, offering a nod to contemporary design.

The Sentimental Value

To delve deeper into the story behind these rings, we sat down with Bella to ask her a few questions:

Why KIND COllection?

"I have had the absolute privilege of working with beautiful Tansy on a weekly basis for the past 5 years, and have seen all of the incredible designs that she has brought to life. I have also had a few other bespoke pieces made by KIND, including my engagement ring, which is truly the most beautiful piece I have ever seen (I’m not biased at all… clearly)! My nan had given me her ring, and wanted me to have it redesigned so it would be a piece I would wear daily – but she only wanted me to work with a brand that I truly trusted to do the ring justice. I am so lucky to have found Tansy many years ago. I knew that my grandmother's ring would be in skilled and caring hands, and I can’t ever imagine having my jewellery made by anyone else! Aside from her exquisite craftsmanship, Tansy’s commitment to sustainability and ethical practices has always been something that has drawn me to her jewellery and services.

What sentimental value does this piece have for you?

"My nan has always had the most special presence in my life. We are so close, but sadly live on other side of the world to each other at the moment! This ring is more than just a piece of jewellery to me; it's a connection to my nan so I can have a piece of her with me at all times. It's a beautiful way to carry her legacy forward, intertwined with my own story. Being able to have her ring redesigned – and to have Tansy bring my vision to life makes my ring set even more special to me. Two worlds colliding!"
