Fair Sourcing & Materials

We use responsibly sourced materials when making our jewellery so you can be assured that we’ve done the research to ensure KIND Jewellery isn’t created at the cost of our planet or the people we share it with.

We source these materials from a range of people & places so here is the down low on what materials we use and why we are proud to use them.

Silver

Sterling Silver is the most commonly used silver and is made up from 92.5% of silver mixed with 7.5% of a differing metal (often copper).  We use 100% recycled silver for our collection designs and Fairmined silver is available for bespoke designs.

Gold

Gold is a mineral and its purity is identified using Carats. Pure gold is very soft so it is mixed with other metals to make it more durable. Carat refers to the proportion of pure gold mixed with another metal alloy to make up the final metal.

  • 9ct Gold has 9/24 parts / 37.5% gold in the final metal.

  • 18ct Gold has 18/24 parts / 75% gold in the final metal.

We use 100% recycled 9ct gold for our collection designs and you can choose between 9ct, 14ct, 18ct or 22ct 100% recycled or Fairmined Gold for bespoke designs.

Platinum

Platinum is a rare and precious metal. Its benefits are that it is dense, malleable and very unreactive (meaning it doesn’t tarnish). It is extremely hardwearing and a gorgeous dark silver colour. We use 100% recycled Platinum for bespoke designs.

100% recycleD Precious Metals

We love that materials such as Gold, Silver & Platinum can be so readily recycled. What was once cherished by one person can be melted down, redesigned and repurposed into a beautiful new piece for another person. All of our designs are cast in 100% recycled Silver & Gold and our wedding rings and bespoke commissions are made using 100% recycled Gold or Platinum as standard. Our recycled metals are sourced from Vipa Designs Limited & Cookson Gold

REsponsibly sourced

There are some components, like ear posts and scrolls which we currently can’t source in 100% recycled, Fairmined© or Fairtrade precious metal. Where this is the case we are careful to source from suppliers who are members of the Responsible Jewellers Council or offer written confirmation that their products are ethically sourced.

Diamonds

Each and every Diamond we use has been individually sourced so we can be sure that they have been ethically mined, cut & traded. All diamonds used in our collection pieces are Canada Mark Diamonds which are mined in the North-West Territories of Canada.

As each bespoke project is unique we work closely with each client to establish their priorities and then suggest options which will work best for their specific project. We are able to offer Canada Mark Diamonds, Ocean Diamonds (Namibia & South Africa), Vintage Diamonds, Salt & Pepper Misfit Diamonds & Lab-grown Diamonds.

It can all be a little confusing! We are able to talk your through the 4 C’s (Colour, Clarity, Cut & Carat) and explain the different properties of each stone. But most importantly we can give you all the information we have on the stones origin to find a stone which most aligns with your personal ethos. Feel free to ask any questions you might have!

We source our diamonds from Fair-trade Gemstones, Misfit Diamonds, Madestones, Henig Diamonds, Calibre Gemstones (Vintage),

Precious Gemstones

We are committed to using ethically sourced Precious & Semi Precious Gemstones in our pieces. These are sourced from small artisanal mines around the world. The exact origin depends on the type, colour and cut of each stone but Tansy is always on hand to answer any questions you might have on the origin of your stones.

Our Precious & Semi Precious Gemstones are sourced from Nineteen48, Fair-Trade Gemstones, Capricorn Gems, Misfit Diamonds & Gemstones Brazil.

Caring for your Jewellery

We ultimately want you to be able to enjoy wearing your jewellery as much as you want to. (Ideally daily!). But here are a few tips for taking care of your jewellery. To make sure you’re protected and that it lasts a lifetime.

Insure your piece

For higher value and very sentimental pieces we recommend insuring your jewellery incase of lost, theft or damage. It is worth contacting your household insurer as it can often be added as a named item or alternatively we recommend using Jewellery Insurance specialise T H March.

Storing your Jewellery

- We recommend that you store your jewellery in separate pouches to avoid the pieces scratching each other.

- Store your jewellery in a dry place as any moisture and can cause tarnishing.

Avoid

- Always remove your jewellery before showering / bathing and don't leave it in a damp bathroom.

- Avoid using any harsh chemicals whilst wearing your jewellery.

- Perfumes and Moisturisers & Anti Bacteria Gel can erode and tarnish the surface of your jewellery so it is always best to remove it before you do either.

To Clean

- To clean your Silver & Gold Jewellery simply use warm water or carbonated water mixed with a small amount of gentle washing up liquid.

Leave your jewellery to soak in the mild solution for 15 minutes and then use a soft bristled tooth brush to clean the surface.

Rinse the jewellery off using tap water and wipe dry with a soft towel or cloth.
