Mother's Day, 2022

To celebrate all the mothers and motherly figures that have raised us, we have interviewed a number of KIND women who love and wear their jewellery each day. It is an honour and a privilege to be a part of each families journey, and to celebrate life and love through the gift of jewellery.

LAURA

Laura recently commissioned a beautiful bespoke visual mantra to celebrate the birth of her daughter.

Have you had any jewellery passed down to you from influential woman in your life?
I inherited a heirloom ring from my nanna (it was her older sisters). She sadly passed during the pandemic. She was a kind, strong woman, who worked her whole life as a nurse for the NHS, and I hope I can follow in her footsteps and give as much back during my own career. I love that the ring has kept the same outline as the original but as an open and infinite circle. A modern reminder to the strong women I had growing up in my life.

Do you have any jewellery which signifies your little bub and celebrates you as a mother?
I have a pendant that was designed by Tansy, with a sun, moon and diamond star. The past, the present, the future and my whole universe wrapped up in a pendant. The ultimate nod the the women who raised me and the daughter I’ll raise myself. Her name is Lyla - meaning the night

HARRIET

Harriet is a very talented designer and a mother of two. She is a KIND woman, and we had the honour of designing her wedding ring for her a few years ago.

Have you any jewellery passed down to you from influential women in your life?

I wear my nana’s wedding ring every day. She had beautiful hands and I always loved the shape of her ring and how she would spin it around between her fingers when I was little. When she died, my mum gave it to me because she knew I loved it. I now where it next to my own wedding ring (that Tansy made!) and I love how the two sit together side by side. Her and my grandpa were married in 1942 and my husband and I were married in 2016 so 74 years apart! Something very romantic about that.

DAWN

A KIND mother from over in Australia, Dawn received a very special piece of jewellery from her two daughters to celebrate her 60th birthday. A year on from here, Dawn had two personalised necklaces made for her daughters, both set with ethically made diamonds and their names engraved on the back.

Have you bought (or been gifted) any milestone jewellery? If so, what is the meaning behind it?

A couple of years ago my two beautiful daughters commissioned a set of 3 ring for my 60th birthday. We decided that we would each have a matching ring with the same design but reflected each of our different personalities and birth-stones. After discussing what each of us would like the piece to represent it became apparent that each of us felt it was very important that we work with a jeweller who could not only design something quite unique for the three of us but was someone who could attest to the provenance of the stones and ethically sourced gold they work with.

As soon as we made contact with Kind we knew we had found exactly the designer we wished to work with. The end result being three stunning hand made rings, each incorporating our different birthstones in different configurations but over all each looks the same as the other. For me as a mother of two special daughters I could not have wished for a more meaningful gift to one another and of all the pieces of jewellery I own that ring is the most significant…. Not because of its size or value but because it is stunningly crafted and links the three of us together indefinitely.

OLIVIA

Last year we created a personalised Full Moon Disc Necklace for Olivia, to honour the birth of her daughter. We set her daughters birthstone, a Tourmaline (October), on one side of the disc, and included an ornate monogram engraving on the other side.

Have you bought (or been gifted) any milestone jewellery? If so, what is the meaning behind it?

Yes, big time! My husband commissioned a bespoke ring with the stones and gold from his family heirloom jewellery. Thanks to Tansy and KIND, we were able to completely reuse all the diamonds and gold, and include them in engagement & wedding rings.

What is something your mother figure taught you about jewellery?

Objects have a life with a beginning and an end, enjoy them but don't be afraid to give them or pass them on.

LETTY

Letty is a wonderful yoga teacher with two beautiful bambinos. She has a KIND Combo Disc necklace with the engravings of a sun and moon to represent her little bubs.

Have you had any jewellery passed down to you from influential woman in your life?

My grandmother left me a delicate gold chain with an amethyst pendant on. Amethyst is my favourite gemstone so it's extra special to me, and the style of the chain always reminds me of her as I remember flashes of her wearing it.

Describe your favourite piece of jewellery that your mother owned and the story behind it?

Mum is always drenched in layers of sentimental jewellery, she literally carries her heart on her sleeve! When we were kids, she would wear a necklace with 5 different pendants on it, all were different variations of hearts. They all looked quite vintage and interesting and different to one another. Each different heart represented each one of her 5 children. It reminds me of being nestled into her and holding them.

SAL

Sal’s partner bought her a voucher for her to design a ring with KIND to celebrate the birth of their first babe! She commissioned a 100% recycled 9ct gold band with 3 Canada mark diamonds to represent herself, her partner and their new bub. We also added a personal engraving to the inside of the band.

Do you have any pieces of jewellery which celebrate your journey as a mother?

My partner wanted to celebrate our journey of becoming parents together, and so worked directly with Tansy to design a bespoke ring. The piece has three diamonds, one to represent each of us in our family, and it's engraved on the inside with my son's name and date of birth. I love seeing it glint in the light, especially when we're not all together as it keeps them close to me.
